Roddymoor Pit

Some of the following underground images of Roddymoor Miners C.1945 were photographed by Alf Tulip (Tiptoe ) and compiled by Bob Albey.

Hopefully these images will give the rest of us who worked above ground some small understanding of the hardships and risks that the pitman had to face everyday in this hostile environment.

Coal was the life blood of Crook but it was paid for dearly.  Many miners continued to suffer and succumb  from illnesses brought about by the poor working conditions long after the mines closed down.
